CLE: "The Green Book" CLE & Solidarity Awards
Sunday, February 05, 2023, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDT
Category: Continuing Legal Education

Join us on February 5, 2023 at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center for “The Green Book” CLE and Solidarity Awards presentation. The Negro Motorist Green Book highlights the history of “The Green Book,” the annual guide created in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green, that provided African American travelers with information on restaurants, gas stations, department stores and other businesses that welcomed Black travelers during the Jim Crow era. The exhibition includes artifacts from business signs and postcards to historic footage, images, and firsthand accounts that illustrate not just the apprehension felt by African American travelers, but also the resilience, innovation, and elegance of people choosing to live a full American existence.

The Holocaust Museum will be open at 1:00 pm and the CLE and Solidarity Awards will begin at 1:30 pm, followed by self-guided tours of “The Green Book” exhibit and the Illinois Holocaust Museum. Attendees receive full access to the museum with their admission to the event.  Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Speaker Dr. Adam Green, Associate Professor of History and the College at the University of Chicago, will discuss “The Green Book”, Plessy v. Ferguson, and the Civil Rights Act.

Tickets are $35/adult, $20/child
